We’re Still Celebrating “Cotton Field of Dreams” 20th Birthday!
Hello WOW Friends,
Cotton Field of Dreams: A Memoir, my very first book, turned 20 in 2025. It’s been so wonderful hearing from so many of you about how the book touched your lives that we’ve selfishly decided to extend our celebration through September 2026.
WOW! There are so many reasons the publication of my first memoir remains so very special to me. Did you know that it was my father’s storytelling mastery that drew me to “telling stories?” I began writing my father’s story during college in the early ‘70s, but in time expanded my memoir to include my mother’s story, as well. That book was published in 2005. I was 51 years old at the time!
A note to all you writers out there struggling with that first book, threatening to give up, and convinced that your time has passed: Don’t give up!!
Cotton Field of Dreams changed my life in wonderful and amazing ways. Through my book, which I called “A Love Letter to My Parents,” I was finally able to reciprocate the love and care my parents had heaped on my 18 siblings and me throughout their lives. Second, I met so many of you through my book. Because of the book, you learned about my personal story, and in turn, many of you shared your personal stories with me - which I always truly enjoyed.
Thirdly, Cotton Field of Dreams cemented what I’d always hoped was true. I was, indeed, a real writer, and finally, a published writer. The book is one of my proudest accomplishments.
And, fourthly, the success I enjoyed with the publication of Cotton Field of Dreams and the opportunity to share my story with audiences across the country and the UK convinced me that our stories are truly universal. That we truly can create one world, with books and stories. And that there is always someone somewhere, experiencing the same joys, fears, anxieties, love…that you experience.
I am eternally grateful for your support and your sharing over these past 21 years. Thank you for being a part of my literary journey.
